Hi, guys —
I'm a 52-year-old woman. I recently came back to the Catholic faith after being away for many years. I had a tubal ligation in my 20's and was married but not in the Catholic Church. When I came back, I had Confession and confessed all. My first Marriage was annulled, because being a Catholic, I should have initially been married in the Catholic Church. I had not known that when I first married. I had divorced him civilly in my late 20's. But I had gotten everything taken care of within the Catholic Church and was able to marry my current husband. I asked my priest was it a mortal sin to be intimate with my current husband, I him asked before he and I were married in the Catholic Church. I asked because I had the tubal in my 20's and I cannot have children. It was truly a huge mistake, I regretted it most of my life. He said that my husband and I could be intimate, my husband knows I can't have children. He also stated that I'm at the age where menopause should be kicking in.
- Is this correct information from my priest?
I do not want to commit a mortal sin. I read on here about a man that was asking this same question because his girlfriend had her tubes tied and wanted to marry her; 2 priest said it would be a valid marriage. I am hoping my priest and these other 2 are correct.

Can I be intimate with my future husband even though I had a tubal ligation in my 20s? }

Tammy,
The norm is that if the procedure can be undone without complications, then that should be tried (This is often very successful in the young, especially with men). Whereas you are past childbearing years anyway it is not only impractical to try and reverse it, but may involve health risks that would be detrimental. So, the priests are correct. Since you are validly married, intimate relations are part of the exclusivity of that relationship and there is no sin in doing so.
Peace,
